The Hospice of St Francis
Machins is delighted to be one of the founding members of the Hospice of St Francis Corporate Partners Network established in 2012 and have successfully launched the Hospice of St Francis Running Club.
Hospice of St Francis Running Club
Runs are held each Wednesday at 9.30am for a donation of £3 per week. All proceeds from go to The Hospice of St Francis
- Improve your fitness & speed, make new friends & discover new road & trail route
- Suitable for runners of all abilities.
- Each run takes place in and around the Berkhamsted and Tring area. The sessions are designed to make sure that every runner is fully part of the planned run whatever their level of fitness. The emphasis is on fun, encouragement and having a great workout.
The Wednesday sessions typically involve a mile or so warm-up run, some active stretching to ensure everyone is warm and ready to go and then some form of an interval-based plan which changes each week. The sessions are broken down into different efforts, with all runners regrouping at the end of each in order to keep the group together. This allows runners of different fitness levels to train at the same time and everyone put in their own individual level of effort. One of the founding aims of the club is to be inclusive, appreciate that runners are all at varying levels of fitness, to recognise and support that and to meet the needs of each and everyone. Elitism is banned!
The venues for the runs can change and details are e-mailed out to all members at the start of the week as well as being advertised on Facebook and Twitter by the Hospice. You can also check out the Hospice Running Club on Facebook. The Club was founded by Paul Owen, Partner at Machins and qualified running coach with England Athletics.
